My pieces from the series The Poetic Response are works created in response to the poetry of Arizona poet Lois Roma-Deeley and others. I have been collaborating with Lois Roma-Deeley for now five years, and frequently respond to her work, or create work in collaborative dialogue with her. While many of my works have included text in the past, I have turned to contemporary poetry as a source of creative dialogue between image and text. Often, the poetry is included in the works as either fragments of text, or in its entirety. These works use and respond to poetic text to visually express ideas of vulnerability, fragility and the transitory nature of beauty. The works are shown with “headphones” on shelves, including the voice of the poet reading her work.
