Beth Shadur
My works are narrative in nature, telling stories and creating connections through symbols, color, and sometimes jarring combinations of images. The work combines plant forms, landscape and other forms from nature, iconography from various world cultures, and objects and symbols traditionally associated with women through history to weave a narrative that is oblique, often personal and sometimes political or issue-oriented. Work often includes text, or is in response to language in various forms, English, Gaelic, French, Spanish, and Hebrew. Each series addresses a different area of concern or interest, using a combination of text, symbolism and image to create images rich in color, detail and idea.
